Rafting is an adventure sport that uses inflatable rafts to navigate downstream on rivers. Its first record dates back to 1869, when John Wesley Powel made an expedition on the Colorado River (USA). In Brazil, the practice began in the 1980s in Três Rios (right here at Rio de Janeiro), and increased in popularity in the 1990s thanks to the opening of specialized companies in various parts of the country. Nowadays, rafting is one of the most sought-after activities – and no wonder: the spirit of adventure and unique contact with nature that it provides guarantee an unforgettable experience.
