With coves, rivers, lagoons, waterfalls, plains, mountains and peaks, in addition to 113 beautiful beaches, Ilha Grande is a true ecological paradise formed by 193 km² of Atlantic Forest. With a pristine vegetation that is home to endangered species such as the maned sloth and the red-browed amazon parrot, it is one of the most important ecosystems in the world. Although much of its land is a preserved area, ecotourism is encouraged by the welcoming local people – there are 150 km of trails, and on the beaches, we can be surprised by dolphins, starfish and sea turtles. Elected in 2007 as one of the Seven Wonders of Rio de Janeiro, Ilha Grande is an ideal destination for those who want to go beyond the traditional tourist routes and have an adventure!

OUR ITINERARY

Our classic itinerary is 6 days, but it can be adapted to 3 days (minimum). If you want a more thorough expedition, we may also include additional days.
If you want this experience, contact us!

DAY 1

Starting the trail in Abraão Village, we’ll go through Enseada das Estrelas, Saco do Céu, Japariz Beach and Freguesia de Santana, where the secular Church of Santana, a historical landmark of Ilha Grande, is located. Finally, we’ll arrive at Bananal for our first night.
Alternatively, we can go from Saco do Céu straight to Bananal or Matariz for overnight.

DAY 2

We continue along Matariz Beach and go through the village and beach of Sítio Forte, Passa Terra, Ubatubinha and Longa Beach, until we arrive at Araçatiba Village to spend the night.

DAY 3

After breakfast, we’ll hike to the village of Provetá, where we’ll stop to rest, have a snack, and shop at the local markets. Then we will climb a hill of approximately 350 meters to descend at Aventureiro Beach, our third overnight stay.

DAY 4

We’ll walk through the Praia do Sul Biological Reserve, the largest reserve on Ilha Grande and an extremely protected area where the beaches Praia do Sul and Praia do Leste – great for surfing – are located. We’ll continue our hike until we reach Parnaioca, where we’ll spend the night.

DAY 5

A day for a well-deserved rest in the paradise of Parnaioca!

DAY 6

A trail takes us from Parnaioca to Dois Rios Village, where we’ll visit the ruins of a former prison that is now occupied by the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Then we’ll head to Abraão Village to start our way back to Rio.
Alternatively, we can take a boat from Dois Rios to visit Caxadaço Beach, and stop at Lopes Mendes Beach. From there, we can hike to Pouso Beach to take a water taxi.

OPTIONAL +1 DAY

For those who want to rest before returning to Rio de Janeiro, we can spend another night at Abraão Village.
Or if you want more adventure, we can add another night to hike to Bico do Papagaio.
