With coves, rivers, lagoons, waterfalls, plains, mountains and peaks, in addition to 86 beautiful beaches, Ilha Grande is a true ecological paradise formed by 193 km² of Atlantic Forest. With a pristine vegetation that is home to endangered species such as the maned sloth and the red-browed amazon parrot, it is one of the most important ecosystems in the world. Although much of its land is a preserved area, ecotourism is encouraged by the welcoming local people – there are 150 km of hiking trails, and on the beaches, we can be surprised by dolphins, starfish and sea turtles. Elected in 2007 as one of the Seven Wonders of Rio de Janeiro, Ilha Grande is an ideal destination for those who want to go beyond the traditional tourist routes.
