The kayak dates back to the 16th century, when it was widely used as a means of transport by fishermen in Greenland for its ability to undertake long journeys and for allowing a quick and silent glide over the waters. It became a recreational and sporting activity in the early 19th century, when the English, inspired by the Eskimo boats, created the first models of the modern kayak. The practice became a sensation in Europe and spread worldwide, reaching Brazil in 1943 thanks to the German immigrant José Wingen. Nowadays, kayaking is gaining more and more enthusiasts for being a democratic, accessible, and not overly demanding activity that offers a unique interaction with nature.

OUR TOUR

Departing from Flamengo Beach, either at sunrise or sunset, our Sea Kayaking tour through the Guanabara Bay offers a privileged view of some of the most iconic attractions in the city, such as Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf, Dois Irmãos Hill, Pedra da Gávea, and the Rio-Niteroi Bridge. While paddling, we’ll also cruise by Urca Beach, where the old Urca Casino building is located, and the historic Laje Fortress, a significant site that, together with São João Fortress and Santa Cruz da Barra Fortress, played a crucial role in defending the city for over two centuries.
For those who already have kayaking experience, we offer advanced-level tours. Contact us to learn more about it!

For safety reasons, people who can't swim are not allowed to do this activity.
